What is the Northern Territory Institute of Sport?
The NTIS is part of the Australian Institutes and Academies of Sport network that has been developed to foster elite athlete development. This scheme has gained international recognition through Australia's incredible performance at the 2000 Olympics as the vast majority of medallists were on scholarship with these Institutes and Academies.
The NTIS consists of a collection of professional expertise, services and resources focused on the delivery of programs designed to enhance athlete and coach performance. These programs are reflective of the 'formula' that has brought about Australia's international sporting success.
Whilst training of Northern Territory athletes is the foremost aim of NTIS, a new concept is to develop, promote and supply services to elite sport organisations and other interested agencies from interstate and overseas. This concept, known as the NTIS Centre of Excellence of Coaching, Training and Research aims to add value to existing NTIS programs through applied sport science research and development, generation of additional revenue and development of competition opportunities with visiting teams.
